New American Leaders (NAL) and New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) are working in tandem to build an inclusive democracy by preparing first and second-generation immigrants and refugees to run for office, win their campaigns, and lead in elected office. We are the only organizations preparing New Americans to enter the political process and govern with accountability and authenticity. As a result, more New Americans will run for office, engage their communities, turn out new voters, and ultimately serve as values-aligned leaders in office who can advance just and equitable policies.

Position Description:
The Political Coordinator works on behalf of NALAF to develop a roster of endorsees, ensuring New American candidates are winning races up and down the ballot across the country. Applicants should have experience working with immigrant communities, uplifting communities of color, and managing a program at a mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities:
Candidate Support (60%)

  • Collaborate with state-based staff to identify, recruit and track community leaders ready to run for public office; assist with training as needed
  • Support office hours, and continuing skills education for NALAF endorsees and alumni of NAL’s candidate trainings.
  • Manage the endorsement program, including managing logistics and data for the candidate questionnaire and interview process, as well as drafting endorsement recommendations for Board
  • Manage with technical support post-endorsement, which includes following up on endorsement expectations and communicating with campaigns where appropriate
  • Track alumni, candidates, and elected officials running for office in the NAL network to ensure accurate data. Conduct post mortem interviews with endorsees after their elections to measure success of endorsement program, gain some lessons learned and improve political landscape guides

Policy and Governance (25%)

  • Manage research and electoral opportunities for New Americans in coordination with the Director of Women’s and Constituency Programs
  • Represent NAL and NALAF with ally organizations and national coalitions, strengthening and building relationships to advance political programming
  • Ensure a smooth process that transitions winning candidates into our Elected Officials Network and losing candidates into programs that provide additional support and training

Operations and Development (15%)

  • Support the Development team in additional fundraising efforts as appropriate
  • Work with the Department of Program Evaluation and Operations to create reports on measuring success of endorsement program and political activity

Additional duties as assigned.

  • Passion for the vision and mission of NAL/AF and the ability to communicate this passion to others
  • Minimum 2-3 years of campaign and/or political organizing experience working with campaigns, in politics, or at an organization that makes endorsements
